Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Many people all over the world deal with a mental health condition that affects their everyday life.  Eight out of every one hundred are affected by this once in their life time.  This condition is caused by horrifying events that someone has experienced or seen.  After experiencing a terrifying event it may cause symptoms that will lead to the diagnosis of this condition, and it is referred to as post-traumatic stress disorder.

The symptoms that are triggered by this disorder are bad dreams, flashbacks, and horrible thoughts.  These have to last longer than a month for this disorder to be diagnosed by a doctor.  Most people that are affected by this begin to avoid the places and objects that remind them of the terrifying event.  They also avoid feelings and thoughts that are related to this.  It is common for people with this disorder to be startled easily, have trouble sleeping, always being on edge, and getting upset easily.  Their mood becomes filled with bad thoughts and distorted feelings.

The events that cause this can be from an unexpected death of a family member or close friend, a dangerous event, or if they or a loved one does harm.  This disorder can be cured over time.  The best treatment is to talk to a therapist about the event so they can become more comfortable with talking about it.  They can be educated about trauma, dealing with guilt, and anger control to help with their mood and relaxation.  The memories will still be in trapped in their mind, but talking to someone can help very much.
